1767-A French Colonies Sou, or 12 Deniers. Paris Mint. Breen-700, Vlack 5-E. No RF Counterstamp. AU-55 (PCGS).
182.9 grains. Lustrous medium brown with superb eye appeal and some hints of faded mint color around the crossed scepters on the reverse. Frosty and appealing. Only the most minor marks are noted, though the dies are rather fatigued and show evidence of their advanced die state. Examples of this issue are very rarely found with any kind of luster, making this a fine choice for a high grade type set.
Pedigree: From the Ted L. Craige Collection. Earlier from our (Stack's) Milton Holmes Sale, October 1960, lot 1272. Paper envelope with attribution and pedigree notes, and Picker envelope included.
