1847 Liberty Eagle. MS-62 (PCGS).
The 1847 eagle is actually a common coin in lower grades, due to a relatively high mintage of 862,258 pieces. A quick study of the PCGS Population Report shows a great concentration of coins at the EF-40 to AU-50 range. Despite being well represented with some 221 examples from the S.S. Republic, this date is scarce in Mint State, and PCGS has only graded a dozen coins at this level, with a mere four coins finer. This coin has pleasing medium gold surfaces with semi-reflective luster. A good strike and only a widely dispersed smattering of minute contact marks. A lovely example for the specialist.
